Frequently Asked Questions

Is PF mandatory for contract workers?
Yes. Contract employees deployed through a contractor must be covered under EPF if the principal employer has 20 or more employees. The contractor is primarily responsible; the principal employer is secondarily liable.
What wages are included for PF calculation?
Basic salary, dearness allowance (DA) and retaining allowance form the EPF wage. Statutory PF contribution is calculated on wages up to ₹15,000 per month. Employers can contribute on higher wages voluntarily.
What is the penalty for non-registration or late payment?
Under EPF Act, damages range from 5% to 25% of the arrear PF based on delay period, plus interest at 12% per annum. ESIC defaults attract penalty of up to double the arrear amount plus prosecution.
